Sam's Army's Mission - Water Safety Assembly
Today, pupils in Years 3 to 6 took part in an important water safety assembly delivered by representatives from Sam's Army's Mission 1 Life.
Sam's Army's Mission 1 Life was established following the tragic loss of 16-year-old Sam Haycock in May 2021. Since then, Sam's family and friends have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the dangers associated with open water and to provide life-saving equipment in and around local waterways. Their mission is to help save lives through education and prevention.
The assembly helped pupils understand the importance of staying safe around water, recognising potential dangers, and knowing what to do if they or someone else gets into difficulty. With several recent tragic incidents involving water reported nationally, the messages shared were both timely and relevant.
We hope that the assembly has increased our pupils' awareness of water safety and given them the confidence to make safe choices when near rivers, lakes, reservoirs, canals, and other open water environments.
We would also encourage parents and carers to continue these important conversations at home. Reinforcing key water safety messages can help children understand the risks and make sensible decisions when spending time outdoors.
We would like to thank Sam's Army's Mission 1 Life for visiting our school and for the valuable work they do in raising awareness and helping to prevent future tragedies.
